This financing package serves as a cornerstone for scaling the company’s 90,000-square-foot Drone Factory 01 in Alabama. By integrating engineering, flight testing, and production under one roof, PDW intends to replace imported technology with American-made propulsion, vision systems, and power controllers. The investment addresses a persistent vulnerability in the U.S. defense industrial base, where the rapid surge capacity required for modern conflict has been hampered by dependency on overseas manufacturers.

PDW Secures $820 Million Federal Loan to Onshore Drone Manufacturing
The U.S. Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital has extended a conditional $820 million loan commitment to Performance Drone Works, a move aimed at dismantling domestic reliance on foreign-controlled supply chains for critical drone components, robotics, and autonomous systems through expanded production at the company’s Huntsville facility.

PDW CEO James Slider emphasized that the nation’s security posture relies on building industrial capacity before a crisis occurs rather than attempting to catch up after the fact. The capital infusion is expected to provide components not just for PDW’s own aerial systems, but for other domestic manufacturers as well, effectively seeding a sovereign drone ecosystem. While the commitment is significant, final disbursement remains contingent on PDW meeting rigorous financial, technical, and legal due diligence requirements set by the Office of Strategic Capital.
