CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Pushes Real-World Industrial Green Innovation

At the Boao Forum for Asia in Perth, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Chairman Li Donglin argued that green technology must graduate from laboratory theory to commercial deployment. By anchoring development in industrial demand, the firm aims to bridge the gap between renewable energy potential and global market profitability.

CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Pushes Real-World Industrial Green Innovation

Li emphasized that the viability of green innovation hinges on economic scale rather than technical novelty. To achieve this, the institute is scaling its R&D efforts to improve energy conversion efficiency while simultaneously driving down unit costs. The strategy relies on system-level integration; for instance, collaborations with XCMG Group and Fortescue create value chains that connect mining operations to rail and shipping, utilizing renewable hydrogen to produce marine fuels like ammonia and methanol.

Building on its history in high-speed rail, the company is deploying its power conversion and control technologies into harsher environments, including desert wind farms and mining sites. As renewable energy integration grows, the institute is prioritizing grid-forming technology to maintain stability. Li noted that sustainable growth requires deeper coordination across global supply chains, positioning the company to expand its partnerships by balancing safety with industrial deployment in the green sector.
