Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney seized on the development to renew his long-standing critique of Apple’s App Store dominance. Labeling the removal a capricious act against a tool serving one billion users, Sweeney argued that the incident illustrates the dangers of arbitrary enforcement by a single marketplace gatekeeper. Australia has also initiated Federal Court proceedings against the company, seeking civil penalties of up to A$54.6 million for failing to remove extremist content.
