AOC Launches National Digital Platform to Bridge MedTech and Academia

With technology evaluation processes dragging on for an average of 270 days, the Academic Orthopaedic Consortium has introduced POST, a national digital platform designed to streamline how medical technology firms connect with university-based orthopaedic departments for research, validation, and clinical implementation.

AOC Launches National Digital Platform to Bridge MedTech and Academia

The platform, developed over three years, seeks to dismantle the administrative hurdles that currently stifle innovation. According to an AOC national assessment, only 13% of institutions currently manage to complete technology evaluations in under 90 days, while over 90% of leaders point to purchasing and administrative bottlenecks as the primary friction points in the industry.

By utilizing intelligent matching technology, POST allows organizations to create granular profiles based on clinical expertise and research priorities. This system bypasses traditional, informal networking, providing a standardized gateway for collaboration. The initiative is already supported by industry heavyweights, including Arthrex, DePuy Synthes, and Stryker, and serves as the digital backbone for the newly formed AOC Technology Evaluation Network. Forty-six academic departments have already designated leaders to spearhead these new, more efficient evaluation pathways.
