The registration follows Bridge’s earlier authorization from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, which granted both a crypto-asset service provider license and an Electronic Money Institution status. By consolidating these approvals, the company can now bypass the need for individual permits in each EU country, offering a unified framework for euro-backed stablecoin issuance and virtual IBAN services. This expansion aligns with Stripe’s broader strategy to integrate blockchain-based infrastructure into global payment networks, a move accelerated by its recent $1.1 billion acquisition of the firm.

Stripe-owned Bridge secures EU stablecoin license
Bridge Building, the Luxembourg-based entity under Stripe, has officially joined the European Union’s MiCA register. This regulatory milestone, confirmed by the European Securities and Markets Authority, establishes the firm as the 42nd authorized electronic money token issuer, granting it the right to operate stablecoin payment services across all 27 member states.

Beyond Bridge’s entry, the European regulatory landscape continues to shift as the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation reaches full maturity. The latest ESMA update also brought three German financial institutions—Volksbank Die Gestalterbank, VBU Volksbank im Unterland, and VR-Bank Erding—into the fold, lifting the total number of authorized crypto-asset service providers across the bloc to 324. While the register grows, the sector remains under intense scrutiny, particularly following the exit of major stablecoins like USDT from several European platforms that failed to meet the new compliance thresholds.
