Function and NYU Grossman Partner to Pioneer Predictive Disease Models
Function, a health-tech company specializing in longitudinal data, is joining forces with the NYU Grossman School of Medicine to develop AI models capable of detecting cancer, cognitive decline, and cardiometabolic issues before clinical symptoms appear. The collaboration aims to pivot medicine from reactive treatment toward proactive, early-stage intervention.
"We typically deploy advanced imaging and blood testing only after people are already sick," said Daniel K. Sodickson, M.D., PhD, Chief Medical Scientist at Function and former Chief of Innovation in Radiology at NYU Langone Health. "This partnership flips that script." The research agenda will be housed under Function’s Medical Intelligence Lab, which launched in November 2025. This project represents a significant expansion for Function following a $450 million growth financing round and recent acquisitions of Getlabs and SuppCo, as the company pushes to standardize preventive health monitoring at scale.
