The expansion marks a shift in how Atlanta consumers access leafy greens, moving away from long-haul distribution toward a regional model. By utilizing a controlled indoor environment, the company aims to mitigate contamination risks often associated with traditional field-grown produce. The Macon facility employs a closed-loop water system and automated harvesting processes, which significantly reduce the need for manual handling from the initial seed planting to the final package sealing.

Abby Prior, Chief Commercial Officer at Cox Farms, noted that the objective is to provide transparency alongside local availability. The Harvest Blend—a mix of green and red leaf lettuce—is currently stocked in the produce sections of Atlanta-area Costco warehouses. This regional supply chain bypasses the typical cross-country transit times, delivering a product that maintains its crunch and quality through a shortened journey from the greenhouse to the consumer's table.
