The center houses a specialized simulation hospital designed to replicate high-stakes clinical environments, ranging from neonatal intensive care units to labor and delivery suites. Beyond patient care simulations, the building includes an expanded cadaver laboratory, advanced CT and X-ray imaging suites, and the Missouri 3D Printing Center for Precision Health. President Dr. Dean Van Galen noted that these immersive spaces are intended to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the demands of modern healthcare.

Missouri Southern State University Unveils Roy Blunt Innovation Center
Former U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt stood alongside students and faculty in Joplin on Aug. 13 to cut the ribbon on the new Health Science Innovation Center. The facility aims to modernize medical training through a dedicated simulation hospital floor, marking the culmination of a five-year push for regional academic expansion.
This project originated from a 2021 challenge issued by then-Gov. Mike Parson, who encouraged state universities to propose capital projects capable of driving institutional transformation. Construction broke ground in April 2024, leading to the current expansion of programs like the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and new degrees in medical imaging. The facility also functions as a campus gateway, housing admissions and global education offices to centralize student services under one roof.
