Clark Gable’s Duesenberg SSJ Claims Top Honors at Pebble Beach

A 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Special Speedster, once owned by Hollywood legend Clark Gable, claimed the Best of Show trophy at the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The victory marked a historic return for the vehicle, which spent over a decade housed just miles from the competition’s iconic 18th fairway.

Owner Harry Yeaggy, a Cincinnati collector who previously secured the top prize in 2007 with the 'Mormon Meteor,' described the win as a culmination of exhaustive restoration efforts. The SSJ, one of only two produced, distinguishes itself with a sweeping hood line and a custom aerodynamic windshield. Its aesthetic has been returned to its original configuration, featuring a black lacquer finish paired with a light saddle leather interior.

Beyond the competitive field, the event reached a significant philanthropic milestone, pushing total charitable giving past $50 million. Proceeds generated this year contribute to over 130 local nonprofits focused on youth education and health. Meanwhile, official auction partner Gooding Christie's recorded its most successful sale to date, highlighted by a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe that fetched nearly $43 million, setting a record for the most valuable American car ever sold at auction.
