Health Gorilla Names New Legal and Technology Chiefs

Health Gorilla has elevated Lidia Niecko-Najjum to Chief Legal Officer and Ryan Smith to Chief Technology Officer, formalizing roles both executives have held in a consulting capacity since last autumn. The appointments arrive as the Florida-based firm scales its national health data exchange infrastructure and navigates complex federal regulatory requirements.

Niecko-Najjum brings over 15 years of expertise in healthcare law, privacy, and AI regulation, transitionary experience rooted in her early career as a registered nurse. She will now oversee the company’s regulatory strategy and corporate governance, focusing on the shifting landscape of TEFCA and information blocking policies. Smith, meanwhile, assumes leadership of the platform’s engineering roadmap and architecture. His mandate involves hardening the technical foundation that supports data exchange across all 50 states, building upon his decade-and-a-half tenure in health technology scaling.

CEO Bob Watson noted that these additions represent a strategic investment in the company’s long-term operational stability. By integrating leadership across legal and technical domains, Health Gorilla aims to solidify its position as a designated Qualified Health Information Network. This expansion follows a period of rapid growth for the firm, which has sought to deepen its influence on the nationwide health data ecosystem since joining the CMS-Aligned Network last year.
