The initiative targets Beckman Young Investigators and Arnold O. Beckman Postdoctoral Fellows who are currently advancing high-impact research but facing project disruptions. By covering these temporary shortfalls, the foundation aims to maintain momentum for complex studies ranging from molecular neuroscience to environmental monitoring and energy storage materials.

Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation Awards $638,000 in Bridge Grants
Eleven researchers have secured a lifeline from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, receiving a total of $638,382 to sustain their work through federal funding gaps. The second round of the 2026 Bridge Funding Awards provides six months of critical support to investigators navigating transitional financial instability.

Executive Director Dr. Anne Hultgren noted that the program’s expansion reflects a commitment to protecting innovative projects that might otherwise stall due to external funding cycles. The recipients include six Young Investigators, such as Beau Alward of UCLA and Roxanne Beltran of UC Santa Cruz, alongside five Postdoctoral Fellows, including Suman Gunasekaran of Stanford and Jacob Spies of UC Berkeley. Each awardee receives six months of coverage, with the possibility of renewal if eligibility requirements are maintained.
