Energy Fuels Terbium Oxide Gains Japanese Manufacturer Approval

The Japanese manufacturer confirmed that the terbium oxide meets all necessary specifications, allowing it to move directly into commercial production of rare earth permanent magnets. This development follows previous successful qualifications for the company's neodymium-praseodymium and dysprosium oxides, reinforcing the firm's expanding role in the supply chain for advanced electronics, aerospace, and defense sectors.

Ross Bhappu, President and CEO of Energy Fuels, described the qualification as a key milestone in diversifying the supply of critical materials away from traditional dominant sources. Terbium remains a highly sought-after element due to its role in enhancing the heat resistance and overall performance of high-strength magnets. According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, the material currently commands a market price of approximately $5.5 million per tonne.

Looking ahead, Energy Fuels aims to solidify its position as a vertically integrated "mine-to-magnet" producer. Pending acquisitions of Australian Strategic Materials and Vacuumschmelze are expected to further bridge the gap between raw material processing at the White Mesa Mill and the final manufacture of permanent magnets in the United States and Europe.
