Patients diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s disease in the United States can now initiate treatment at home using LEQEMBI IQLIK, a new subcutaneous autoinjector. The device offers an alternative to traditional intravenous infusions, aiming to provide greater flexibility for those managing mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to the condition.
Eisai and Biogen are supporting the rollout with a comprehensive resource package, including a "Welcome Kit" and a digital companion app developed with Medisafe Ltd. to assist with dose tracking and education. While the shift to subcutaneous administration offers significant logistical benefits, the safety profile remains consistent with the intravenous version, including the risk of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA).
