KSAT Launches Hybrid Satellite Relay Demonstrations with Hyperion
Kongsberg Satellite Services has initiated the first validation campaigns for Hyperion, the pathfinder mission for its next-generation HYPER network. By integrating optical and radio frequency links, the company aims to provide satellite operators with low-latency relay services that overcome the limitations of traditional ground station coverage.

Institutional and commercial participants are already engaged in the validation process. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is testing bidirectional communications and data relay to confirm the network's ability to facilitate rapid mission data delivery. Simultaneously, the program is progressing through the first phase of the European Space Agency’s European Resilience from Space initiative, focusing on real-time satellite tasking. As these trials continue, KSAT is actively seeking additional technology providers to help refine the hybrid architecture ahead of full-scale commercial deployment.
