LG Shifts Strategy to Make High-Efficiency Appliances a Mainstream Standard

The company’s Energy Leadership Zone in Berlin serves as the centerpiece for this shift, highlighting hardware upgrades that allow various models to meet or exceed A-grade efficiency standards. In the laundry sector, LG is deploying its Direct Drive Motor and Dual Inverter Heat Pump technology to achieve performance levels up to 70 percent above current A-grade requirements. This expansion includes a new mass-premium dryer slated for release later this year, which marks a significant jump from previous B-grade specifications to the new A-grade benchmark.

Refrigerator and dishwasher lineups are seeing similar technical overhauls. LG has integrated AI-driven features, such as the AI Saving mode in refrigerators and AI SenseClean in dishwashers, to adjust energy consumption based on real-time usage variables. By refining mechanical components like the compact drive unit in dishwashers and optimizing insulation in refrigerators, the company intends to lower household utility costs without sacrificing cleaning or cooling performance. According to Baek Seung-tae, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, the goal is to reshape the market so that high efficiency is no longer reserved for high-end consumers but becomes the baseline expectation for all buyers.
