Bluon Resurrects Human Tech Support to Bridge HVAC Labor Gap

With the HVAC industry facing a projected shortage of 225,000 technicians by 2030, Irvine-based Bluon is bringing back its live, brand-agnostic technical support service. The move aims to stem the loss of institutional knowledge as 25,000 veteran workers exit the field annually, leaving newer staff to face increasingly complex equipment challenges.

The relaunched service functions as a human-backed fail-safe for Bluon’s MasterMechanic AI. While the digital assistant handles 95% of routine diagnostic queries, the live support tier provides a direct line to specialists boasting 20 to 50 years of field experience. Technicians can trigger a call directly through the app, avoiding traditional hold times or the need to pull supervisors off other jobs. Calls are routed specifically based on the equipment type and the nature of the malfunction.

This hybrid approach relies on a massive training dataset derived from over 135,000 historical support calls. Bluon previously operated a similar service from 2019 to 2022, scaling from a handful of daily inquiries to more than 600 during peak seasons. CEO Peter Capuciati noted that as new regulations and equipment designs proliferate, the ability to consult a veteran on nuanced, non-standard issues remains critical for maintaining productivity and reducing callbacks.
