K-911, also known as bimatoprost grenod or NCX 470, functions by utilizing a dual-pathway approach to reduce intraocular pressure. While traditional treatments often rely on single mechanisms, this solution is engineered to enhance fluid outflow through both the trabecular meshwork and the uveoscleral pathway. The application is backed by data from the pivotal Phase 3 Mont Blanc and Denali clinical trials, which compared the investigational drug against latanoprost, a common prostaglandin analog.

FDA Reviews New Once-Daily Glaucoma Treatment K-911
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted a new drug application for K-911, a nitric oxide-donating eye drop designed to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Kowa Pharmaceuticals America, which submitted the treatment for review, faces a target action date of April 30, 2027, for a final decision.

Joe Barna, CEO of Kowa Pharmaceuticals America, described the FDA's acceptance as a milestone in expanding treatment options for the millions of Americans living with elevated eye pressure. If the drug receives regulatory approval, the company anticipates a commercial launch in the United States during the second half of 2027. Kowa secured the rights to develop and distribute the medication through a 2025 licensing agreement with Nicox S.A., the firm that originally developed the compound.
