Ultraman History Goes Under the Hammer in Sompote Sands Collection
A treasure trove of over 300 artifacts from the estate of Thai special-effects visionary Sompote Sands will hit the auction block in Los Angeles on September 23, 2026. The collection offers an intimate look at the golden age of tokusatsu cinema, spanning Sands' work on the Ultraman franchise and beyond.
Highlights include an original Ultraseven production mask from 'Hanuman and the Seven Ultramen,' estimated at $5,000 to $7,000, and a rare 3D painting of Ultraman signed by legendary character designer Tohl Narita, valued at up to $20,000. Beyond the monster suits and miniatures, the archive features personal artifacts from Sands' early career in Japan, such as his annotated script and 35mm camera used on the set of the 1962 classic 'King Kong vs. Godzilla.' Collectors can participate in the live event at Julien's Studios in Gardena, California, or via online bidding platforms.
