Chattanooga 2.0 Launches Strategy to Support Adolescent Growth

The initiative, introduced during the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Adolescent Development Learning Series, moves beyond traditional youth programming by targeting the broader ecosystem surrounding young people. According to Dr. Jasmine Fernández, Director of Adolescent Strategy & Collective Impact, the project focuses on ensuring adolescents have access to supportive adult relationships and safe spaces to explore their interests. Feedback from the organization’s Youth Advisory Council underscored the urgency of this shift, with members citing transportation barriers and a lack of local mentorship as primary obstacles to their personal growth.

Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized that the strategy relies on a unified cross-sector approach, noting that no single entity can adequately support adolescent development in isolation. The project is bolstered by the Advancing Opportunities for Adolescents initiative, a national effort funded by The Wallace Foundation that connects Chattanooga with six other communities to share best practices. Early implementation efforts are slated to begin in East Ridge and Orchard Knob, where partners will work to connect local youth with high-quality experiences and clearer pathways toward economic independence.
