Metaplanet Shifts $108M in Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime

Metaplanet has transferred 1,350 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $108 million, to the Coinbase Prime platform. This latest movement follows a similar transfer of 1,000 BTC just three days prior, igniting market speculation regarding the firm's intentions for its massive digital asset treasury as Bitcoin struggles to maintain momentum above $80,000.

The transfer, identified by on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain, has drawn intense scrutiny from market participants wary of a potential sell-off. While moving assets to an institutional-grade platform like Coinbase Prime can facilitate trading, the action does not confirm a liquidation. Such deposits are frequently used for custody, collateral management, or financing operations. Metaplanet has not issued a formal disclosure indicating that a sale occurred, and the company’s official treasury balance remains reported at 43,000 BTC.

Past patterns suggest caution when interpreting these wallet movements. In August, the Tokyo-listed firm faced similar questions after nearly 3,900 BTC appeared to leave its control. CEO Simon Gerovich later clarified that those transactions were internal reorganizations between custodial addresses rather than market disposals. Metaplanet continues to pursue an ambitious accumulation strategy, targeting a total holding of 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. With the company currently navigating complex treasury operations and a pending strategic partnership with Super League Enterprise, these transfers remain ambiguous, highlighting the difficulty of tracking corporate Bitcoin movements through public ledger data alone.
