Quantum Camera Startup Diffraqtion Closes $10M Pre-Seed Round
With over $10 million in total funding, Somerville-based Diffraqtion is moving its quantum-enabled imaging technology toward orbital deployment. The MIT and University of Maryland spinout recently secured strategic investments from Lockheed Martin Ventures and Presidio Ventures to accelerate its work in space domain awareness and reconnaissance.
To manage the transition from laboratory prototypes to flight-ready hardware, the firm has tapped Peter Kazlas as Head of Engineering. Kazlas, whose background includes senior roles at E Ink and QD Vision, will oversee the integration of the first fielded camera onto a partner spacecraft. CEO Johannes Galatsanos stated that the technology allows for enhanced mission capability while drastically reducing the size and cost of sensing equipment. Beyond defense applications, investors see potential for the cameras to serve industrial and commercial markets by applying the same physics-based advantages to terrestrial and autonomous systems.
