The research, conducted by Monteloeder, a subsidiary of SuanNutra, examined how the four-herb formula—comprising lemon verbena, olive leaf, Japanese pagoda tree, and rosemary—interacts with human dermal papilla cells. In laboratory tests, the extract increased cell proliferation to 2.5 times that of untreated controls. Furthermore, the preparation appears to mitigate oxidative damage and maintain levels of the IGF-1 protein, which is essential for healthy hair development.

Monteloeder Study Links Elissara Nutricosmetic to Follicular Resilience
A new preclinical study published in the journal Biomolecules suggests that the polyphenol-enriched ingredient Elissara may go beyond scalp health to actively support hair follicle function. Researchers found the botanical blend helps preserve critical growth-signaling proteins even when follicles are subjected to environmental stressors like pollution and UV radiation.
Daniel González-Hedström, R&D Director at SuanNutra, noted that the formula targets multiple biological pathways, including those influenced by dihydrotestosterone, rather than relying on a single mechanism. Previously known as Zeropollution, the ingredient was originally designed to protect skin from environmental exposure. Following a clinical trial that showed improvements in scalp hydration and sebum levels among 66 women, the company shifted focus to the potential for direct hair growth support. The findings will be showcased at upcoming industry events, including Vitafoods Asia, as the team works to transition these mechanistic results into future clinical hair-growth trials.
