Skanska secures $57M contract to overhaul Del Mar traffic corridor
A 84-year-old bridge over the San Dieguito River is set for demolition as Skanska begins a $57 million expansion of the El Camino Real corridor in Del Mar, California. The City of San Diego awarded the contract to modernize the route, aiming to mitigate chronic flooding and improve regional safety.
Starting in December 2026, crews will replace the aging San Dieguito River Bridge with a modern structure. The design integrates multi-modal features, including separated bike lanes, new sidewalks, updated traffic signaling, and an equestrian-friendly trail passing beneath the bridge. This infrastructure work is scheduled for completion in August 2030. The contract value will be reflected in Skanska’s U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.
