OKX Tightens Scrutiny on High-Risk Crypto Deposits

Deposits flagged as high-risk by OKX may trigger compliance reviews lasting 15 days or longer, potentially resulting in frozen funds and account restrictions. CEO Star Xu confirmed the exchange is intensifying its anti-money laundering protocols following reports that transfers from unregulated betting platforms triggered internal investigations.

The exchange’s compliance team utilizes blockchain monitoring tools to trace transaction paths, specifically targeting funds linked to Telegram-based escrow markets and platforms associated with the Huiwang network. While a flagged address does not automatically equate to criminal activity, OKX may demand extensive documentation, including withdrawal receipts and transaction hashes, to verify the origin of assets. Xu noted that accounts confirmed to be involved in illegal conduct face the risk of total service termination.

This heightened posture follows the exchange’s February 2025 guilty plea regarding unlicensed money transmission in the United States, which resulted in over $500 million in penalties. Under increased regulatory pressure, the platform now enforces stricter screening against sanctions and illicit financial indicators. Although 15 days serves as a primary benchmark for these reviews, the actual duration remains flexible based on the findings of each individual case. Customers are encouraged to maintain clear records of their financial history, as the exchange’s internal risk policies often exceed the baseline requirements of local law.
