The bombing, which occurred Tuesday in Hormozgan province, claimed the lives of at least two children, identified as 4-year-old Amir-Ali Karimi and 16-year-old Mohammad Mollahi. The Iranian Red Crescent has petitioned the International Criminal Court to launch an independent investigation, citing the clearly civilian nature of the gathering. Yemen’s National Human Rights Commission also labeled the strike a violation of the Geneva Conventions.

US Central Command stated the mission targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) positions in retaliation for attacks near the Strait of Hormuz. Capt. Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesperson, acknowledged reports of civilian casualties but attributed them to Iranian state media, asserting that the US military does not target non-combatants. The strike follows a period of escalating rhetoric from the White House, with President Donald Trump warning that any retaliation from Tehran would result in further, more severe military action.

Following the wedding bombing, the IRGC claimed to have launched retaliatory strikes against US facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq. While Kuwait reported intercepting incoming fire with no casualties, the US has yet to confirm or deny claims regarding personnel losses at the Ali Al Salem Air Base. Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft noted the attack occurred just ten days after the administration suggested that new sanctions would render further military action unnecessary. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described the incident as part of an ongoing catalog of atrocities, vowing that Tehran would respond to the strike with firmness.
