InCoax and Nokia launch multi-gigabit broadband over coax in Minnesota
Thirty to 40 apartment buildings in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, are gaining high-speed broadband access through a new partnership between InCoax Networks and Sjoberg’s Inc. The deployment marks the first live commercial use of the Nokia Gigabit Connect solution, which repurposes existing coaxial infrastructure to deliver fiber-grade connectivity.
Beyond simple connectivity, the integration includes the Nokia Altiplano Access Controller, allowing Sjoberg’s to manage its fiber and coax infrastructure through a unified interface. The operator has also incorporated diagnostic capabilities into its TruVizion platform, providing real-time performance monitoring for the new hardware. CEO Jakob Tobieson noted that this milestone serves as a critical reference point for further expansion of the technology across other operator networks. The deployment also aligns with sustainability goals by minimizing construction waste and the need for new cabling materials within the residential properties.
