Holland America Debuts Revamped Ocean Bar Aboard Oosterdam

The renovation introduces a stage capable of hosting a diverse roster of acts, ranging from solo pianists and the Vivace Strings ensemble to late-night cabaret. By relocating the bar to the center of the lounge, designers have created a more intimate flow between the seating areas and the music. The venue’s visual identity draws heavily from the golden age of ocean travel, utilizing custom furnishings that mimic the look of vintage luggage and leather-trimmed trunks.

Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms, noted that the project draws specific design cues from the historic Rotterdam V to maintain a sense of elegance. Beyond the aesthetic overhaul, the company emphasized sustainability by reupholstering existing furniture with recycled fabrics. This project is part of a broader $500 million investment set to revitalize six Vista and Signature Class ships. These updates, based on direct guest feedback, aim to bring the premium features of the company’s Pinnacle Class vessels to the rest of the fleet.
