Mid Island Y JCC Rebrands as Manes JCC Following Landmark Gift

A long-standing Plainview institution is changing its name to the Manes JCC, marking a new era for the community center. The rebranding follows a transformative donation from Dr. Harvey Manes and the Manes Peace Prize Foundation, intended to fuel infrastructure upgrades and long-term facility investments over the coming years.

The announcement arrived Wednesday during a celebration at the organization’s Plainview campus, where leadership confirmed the transition. Dr. Manes, an orthopedic surgeon and attorney who grew his connection to the center from personal exercise classes to significant philanthropic investment, stated that the contribution aims to bolster the services the agency provides to the broader Long Island community.

Work is already underway to modernize the facility. Immediate capital projects include a parking lot overhaul, a new floor for the group fitness studio, and a full replacement of fitness center equipment that dates back to the building’s 2012 renovation. Board President Vicki Diamond noted that these initial tasks represent only the beginning of a broader strategic plan to allocate the funds.

Despite the name change, the center’s core mission remains unchanged. The organization continues to operate as a hub for individuals of all backgrounds and faiths, offering a diverse array of services ranging from early childhood education and memory care to specialized programming for those with unique needs. For the staff and board, this gift serves as a catalyst for future growth rather than a shift in institutional identity.
