Unlike the company’s existing portfolio, which relies on a single medicinal chemistry scaffold, this new series offers a separate chemotype specifically engineered to address neurodegeneration. By targeting SGK1, which influences tau phosphorylation and neuroinflammatory signaling, Thryv intends to tackle protein aggregation issues central to various tauopathies.

Thryv Therapeutics Expands SGK1 Platform into Neurodegenerative Research
Thryv Therapeutics has secured an exclusive, worldwide license for a novel class of SGK1 inhibitors from Spain’s CSIC and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. This strategic acquisition grants the company a distinct chemical scaffold, enabling a transition from its primary focus on cardiac conditions into the complex landscape of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Debra Odink, President and Chief Development Officer, noted that the license provides a systematic foundation for exploring medical frontiers previously inaccessible to the company’s current assets. While the firm continues its clinical progress with lead candidate THRV-1268—currently in the WAVE II study for Long QT Syndrome Type 2—the newly acquired series will undergo parallel development. Thryv aims to nominate its first neuro-focused development candidate by 2027, maintaining its existing pace in cardiovascular research while diversifying its clinical pipeline.
