Harvard Business School and Industry Leaders Launch Mental Health Lab

With the World Health Organization estimating 12 billion working days lost annually to depression and anxiety, a new coalition of major corporations and Harvard Business School researchers is launching the Project Healthy Minds Workforce Lab to move beyond wellness perks and establish a rigorous, evidence-based framework for employee mental health.

Harvard Business School and Industry Leaders Launch Mental Health Lab

The Lab, spearheaded by the mental health tech nonprofit Project Healthy Minds, aims to transition the corporate conversation from optional benefits to core operational and financial performance. Founding members include Acast, Apollo Global Management, AXIS Capital, KPMG, L'Oréal USA, ServiceNow, TD SYNNEX, Teneo, and Universal Music Group. By partnering with Harvard Business School professor Ryan W. Buell, the coalition intends to generate data-driven insights that quantify the impact of mental health interventions on productivity and retention.

Co-chaired by ServiceNow’s Jacqui Canney and L'Oréal North America’s Stephanie Kramer, the initiative focuses on building a standardized, actionable blueprint for employers. Rather than relying on anecdotal wellness strategies, member companies will participate in a long-term research endeavor, receiving private benchmarking, ROI analysis, and custom recommendations. The project will anchor its public findings around two annual milestones: World Mental Health Day in October and Mental Health Awareness Month in May.
