With over 79% of system drives now utilizing SSD technology, Windows users are moving away from the pursuit of raw capacity toward intelligent space allocation. A new study of 3.8 million global samples reveals that while devices are becoming more sophisticated, persistent storage bottlenecks remain for the average user.

EaseUS Software’s 2026 H1 report highlights a fundamental change in how Windows environments are structured. SSDs have firmly established themselves as the industry standard, accounting for 63% of all sampled drives. This migration signals a market pivot where performance and reliability are prioritized over the sheer size of internal storage. Despite the transition to faster hardware, the majority of internal drives remain under 1TB, indicating that users are favoring mid-range storage solutions for their daily computing needs.

However, this technological shift has introduced new friction points. While multi-drive configurations are gaining traction—with nearly 45% of devices now utilizing two or more disks—many users still struggle with constrained system partitions. Roughly 78% of C drives are sized under 500GB, and 17% of devices are actively reporting low-disk-space warnings. The data suggests that devices with C drives smaller than 120GB face the highest risk, as nearly a third of those users encounter performance-limiting space pressure. These findings suggest that both hardware manufacturers and software developers must move beyond simple capacity upgrades toward proactive disk lifecycle management and more efficient partition strategies.
