Fujifilm Debuts Compact XF 400mm f/4.5 Super-Telephoto Lens

Fujifilm has expanded its sports and wildlife optics lineup with the release of the XF 400mm f/4.5 R LM OIS WR. Designed for handheld use, the new prime lens offers a 609mm full-frame equivalent focal length, targeting photographers who require portability without sacrificing reach in challenging field conditions.

Weighing just under 2.75 pounds, the lens is engineered to reduce the physical strain typically associated with long-range photography. It incorporates a high-speed linear autofocus motor and optical image stabilization, which provides up to 5.5 stops of shake compensation. The internal construction features four ED and two Super ED elements, finished with a rounded 9-blade diaphragm to ensure high-quality image rendering.

Durability remains a core focus, as the unit includes weather-resistant seals to protect against moisture, dust, and snow. For professionals needing additional range, the lens is fully compatible with Fujifilm XF 1.4x teleconverters. The release arrives as part of a broader push by the manufacturer to strengthen its professional-grade arsenal, with detailed demonstrations and technical specifications now available through B&H.
