Bottomline Taps Chainlink to Link $16 Trillion Network to Blockchains

The collaboration utilizes Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to manage data and value transfers, alongside the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) to orchestrate complex payment workflows. By deploying this infrastructure, participating financial institutions can route transactions between traditional banking systems and blockchain networks without needing to overhaul their existing technical architecture. This approach aims to streamline cross-border payments, which often suffer from high fees and multi-day settlement times when processed through traditional intermediary banks.

While the partnership provides the underlying plumbing for blockchain-based settlement, its adoption remains at the discretion of individual banks. Neither Bottomline nor Chainlink has disclosed specific timelines for implementation or the number of institutions currently committed to the service. The move aligns with a broader industry trend where established financial providers, including Swift and JPMorgan, have increasingly tested Chainlink’s technology to facilitate tokenized asset transfers and T+0 settlement cycles. For Bottomline, the integration serves as a gateway for its extensive network—which spans 1,200 financial institutions and 10,000 businesses—to engage with tokenized finance without abandoning the regulatory and operational frameworks of traditional banking.
