Monday’s holiday-thinned trading kept Bitcoin largely rangebound after an intraday peak of $80,494. The asset remains sensitive to shifting monetary policy expectations, which tightened following the Bureau of Labor Statistics' report that nonfarm payrolls surged by 162,000 in August. This cooling of optimism has left the cryptocurrency struggling to reclaim the $80,000 mark.
Two inflation reports now stand as the primary hurdles for market sentiment. The Producer Price Index, due Thursday, serves as an early indicator of cost pressures, while Friday’s Consumer Price Index will provide the final major inflation reading before the Federal Open Market Committee convenes. A hotter-than-expected CPI could cement expectations for a 25-basis-point rate hike, further pressuring non-yielding assets like Bitcoin. Conversely, softer figures may offer the Fed room to pause, a scenario Governor Christopher Waller has previously signaled as plausible.
