Sony Expands E-Mount Lineup With FE 8-14mm f/3.5 G Fisheye Zoom

Sony has bridged a significant gap in its E-mount lens ecosystem with the debut of the FE 8-14mm f/3.5 G, the brand’s first-ever fisheye zoom. Designed for hybrid creators, the optic balances a wide, unique perspective with a compact, weather-sealed build intended for both still photography and professional VR capture.

The new lens transitions seamlessly from a circular fisheye effect to a standard equidistant diagonal view. Its optical architecture consists of 16 elements in 13 groups, incorporating extra-low dispersion and aspherical glass to maintain image integrity and mitigate color fringing. With a minimum focus distance of 8.7 inches, the lens caters to creative close-ups, while two integrated linear motors facilitate high-speed autofocus performance compatible with 120 fps tracking.

Engineered for portability, the unit weighs only 11.1 ounces and measures 3.3 inches in length. Despite its size, Sony has integrated professional-grade controls, including an aperture ring with a click switch, a zoom lock, and a focus hold button. The lens also features a rear filter holder and a fluorine front coating to withstand harsh environments. Beyond standard photography, the optic is specifically optimized for 3D VR imaging, supported by minimized focus breathing and linear manual focus response for predictable focus pulls.
