Moving beyond mere tool-based instruction, Ashland University and nonprofit Ed3 are launching a statewide professional development initiative this June. The program prioritizes pedagogy-first AI training, aiming to equip K-12 educators across Ohio with the practical judgment necessary to integrate emerging technologies into their classrooms while maintaining core instructional quality.
Dr. James Powell, executive director of professional learning services at Ashland, noted that current industry approaches often lean too heavily on specific tools rather than teaching philosophy. The new courses will offer graduate credit and continuing education units through stackable pathways, allowing teachers to build credentials incrementally. Ed3 founder Vriti Saraf emphasized that the curriculum is designed to anchor AI adoption in the specific needs of the classroom, ensuring educators lead with purpose rather than reacting to rapid technological shifts.
