PeerTrust Launches Tool to Expose Hidden Citation Anomalies

The service, now live at PeerTrust.Report, provides insurance carriers, universities, and investors with evidence-based reports on individual citation histories. It focuses on three specific indicators: coauthor network concentration, reciprocal citation relationships, and abrupt shifts in publication velocity. By highlighting these irregularities, the platform aims to provide stakeholders with the data necessary for informed due diligence before finalizing partnerships or funding decisions.

Bassem Kadry, Chief Innovation Officer at ScienceWerx, emphasized that identifying an unusual pattern is not equivalent to uncovering misconduct. Legitimate factors, such as sudden team growth or consortium publishing, can trigger alerts. The system is intended to flag records for human review rather than to assign guilt or infer intent. To validate the methodology, a third-party team conducted a computational reproducibility benchmark on a cohort of 260 researchers. The independent implementation matched the production system’s classifications in 258 of the 260 cases, confirming the tool’s consistency in processing complex bibliographic data.

Khalid Saqr of KNOWDYN noted that current evaluation processes frequently fail to look past surface-level numbers. PeerTrust functions as a transatlantic joint initiative between ScienceWerx and KNOWDYN, with plans to expand into API access and direct institutional integration for research-integrity workflows.
