Shanghai Electric Wins First Overseas Contract for Heavy-Duty Turbines

Under the agreement, the company assumes responsibility for the entire project life cycle, from manufacturing core components like gas and steam turbines to providing a 25-year maintenance program. By keeping the production of generators, heat recovery systems, and air-cooled units in-house, the firm ensures vertical integration across its systems. This capacity to manage end-to-end delivery is a strategic pivot intended to challenge the market dominance of long-standing industry leaders.

The firm currently maintains a fleet of 103 units globally, with an installed capacity surpassing 21,000 MW. These systems have logged over 1.3 million operating hours under existing service contracts. With production lines optimized for its primary 300 MW and 78 MW models, the company is preparing for new deliveries starting in 2028. Following this Malaysian milestone, project developers in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam are reportedly evaluating the technology for their own energy infrastructure needs.
