Metaplanet expands Bitcoin reach with $1M Hong Kong subsidiary

Tokyo-listed Metaplanet is establishing a wholly owned subsidiary in Hong Kong to manage Bitcoin-linked investment strategies and monitor market positions during Asian trading hours. The move, backed by $1 million in initial capital, serves as the latest pillar in the company’s Project Nova financial services infrastructure.

Metaplanet expands Bitcoin reach with $1M Hong Kong subsidiary

The new entity, Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited, is slated for incorporation this September. Directors Simon Gerovich, Darren Winia, and Kelvin Lee will oversee the firm, which aims to provide round-the-clock execution capabilities to complement the group’s existing Miami-based asset management arm. By maintaining a presence in Hong Kong, the company intends to bridge operational gaps between the U.S. market and Asian trading sessions.

This expansion aligns with Project Nova, a broader initiative to integrate Bitcoin into a diversified portfolio of securities, derivatives, and structured credit products. While the company has secured a Japanese brokerage platform through its acquisition of Siiibo Securities and is exploring Bitcoin-backed digital credit with partners like JPYC, the Hong Kong unit focuses specifically on operational support. Metaplanet expects the subsidiary’s immediate financial impact on its 2026 consolidated results to remain minimal as it continues to navigate local regulatory requirements and infrastructure development.
