For the first time since the ranking launched in 2023, the United Kingdom has surpassed Germany as the primary home for Europe’s largest corporations. Volkswagen retains the top position with $363 billion in revenue, successfully widening the gap against second-place Shell. While Volkswagen saw a 3% revenue increase, Shell’s revenues dipped by 5% over the same period. Across the board, Europe’s 500 largest companies generated $15.5 trillion in total revenue, marking a 4% rise and accounting for approximately 13% of global GDP. Profits also rebounded, climbing 3% to reach $1 trillion after a previous year of decline, though profit margins tightened to 6.5%.

Corporate restructuring remains a priority, evidenced by a 1% reduction in total headcount to 34.6 million employees. This shift in labor strategy helped drive a 5% increase in revenue per employee. The list also shows incremental progress in executive diversity, reaching a record 43 female CEOs. Despite this peak, women lead only 8.6% of the companies represented, trailing the 11% representation found in the U.S.-based Fortune 500.

Financial services, energy, and automotive sectors continue to dominate, collectively accounting for more than half of all revenues and profits on the list. HSBC leads the ranking in pure profitability with $22 billion in 2025 earnings. At the lower end of the spectrum, FMS Wertmanagement Group marks the entry threshold for the list, which now requires over $7 billion in revenue to qualify.
