Zhou Jianjun, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power, introduced a new grid-interactive AI data center solution in Shenzhen, designed to optimize energy efficiency by synchronizing compute demands with power grid capacity.

The surge in large model training is transforming AI data centers into massive energy consumers, shifting the focus of infrastructure from basic power supply to sophisticated energy management. Huawei’s new "3+1" architectural framework redefines how data centers interact with electrical grids by integrating power electronics, thermal management, and digital optimization. Instead of treating the facility as a passive load, the solution employs grid-forming technology to enable data centers to act as stabilizing nodes within the local power ecosystem.

Central to this approach is the shift from traditional engineering to a modular, productized construction model. By leveraging the company's 1000 V grid-forming inverters and solid-state transformer technology, the system aims to dampen oscillations and improve reliability during high-density compute operations. Furthermore, the integration of AI-enabled liquid cooling systems and proactive digital maintenance allows the infrastructure to scale more rapidly, addressing the operational complexity of megawatt-level campuses. The primary objective is to maximize the output of tokens per watt, ensuring that the increasing energy demands of the AI era remain both sustainable and grid-friendly.
