Nick Rugg Takes Lead of Financial Institutions and Fintech at Markel
Nick Rugg has been appointed as the new Head of Financial Institutions & Fintech for Markel’s international specialty insurance division. Effective immediately, Rugg will oversee professional indemnity, cyber coverage, and directors' and officers' liability, reporting directly to Martin McCarron as the firm seeks to consolidate its market position.

Having joined Markel in 2014, Rugg previously served as the Head of Fintech and Investment Management Insurance. With over 20 years of industry experience, including a prior tenure at Arch Europe, he is credited with building the company’s Fintech product suite. This includes the development of blended cyber coverage, which integrates professional and crime liability protections. Rugg noted that as Fintech has transitioned from an emerging segment to a core market, the demand for specialized, varied insurance solutions has intensified.
