General contractor ICREAR discovered extensive structural damage and water loss in the cistern as construction reached its final stages. To rectify the compromised concrete, technicians first applied PENEPLUG, a rapid-setting cementitious grout, to halt active leaks. Workers then utilized PENECRETE MORTAR to seal visible cracks, finishing the process with a coating of PENETRON crystalline material on outer surfaces and tie holes.

Penetron Restores Water Cistern at Guanajuato’s Torre Valaria
When severe leaks threatened the drinking water supply of Guanajuato’s tallest residential tower, contractors turned to crystalline waterproofing to salvage the structure. The 70-meter Torre Valaria, which houses 125 apartments, required an urgent repair of its below-grade cistern before the building’s first residents moved in during October 2025.

According to Rodrigo Monterrubio Solis, Country Manager for PENETRON México, the treatment creates an impermeable barrier that stops moisture and harmful chemicals even under high hydrostatic pressure. The chemical reaction within the concrete creates an insoluble crystalline network that self-heals microcracks, a feature expected to extend the cistern's service life significantly. This NSF-61 certified solution ensures the safety of the drinking water supply for the tower’s residents in the UNESCO World Heritage city.
