Guesty Acquires Smily to Anchor Position in French Rental Market

With over one million active listings and $9 billion in annual gross booking value, France stands as the world’s second-largest short-term rental market. Guesty is now moving to capitalize on this scale, announcing its acquisition of Smily, the French property management system formerly known as BookingSync.

Guesty Acquires Smily to Anchor Position in French Rental Market

The deal integrates Smily’s fifteen years of local expertise into Guesty’s global AI-driven platform. Founded in 2005 by Sébastien Grosjean, Smily grew from a family-run rental operation into a comprehensive management suite that has processed €3.3 billion in bookings for 13 million travelers. By folding these resources into its own, Guesty aims to deploy its proprietary AI agents and expanded R&D capabilities directly to French operators.

Sébastien Grosjean noted that while Smily could have remained independent, the rapid evolution of industry technology necessitated a merger with a larger, global leader. As part of the transition, Smily’s five founders and a group of shareholders are reinvesting a portion of the transaction proceeds into Guesty equity. The combined teams will now focus on integrating their engineering and support resources to set new standards for French property managers, specifically by introducing Guesty’s Agent Hub to the region. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
