Pearson Expands Assessment Portfolio with ITS Acquisition

Pearson has acquired Baltimore-based Internet Testing Systems, a move designed to bolster the global education giant's professional assessment and remote proctoring capabilities. The deal integrates ITS’s established delivery and reporting infrastructure into Pearson Professional Assessments, formalizing a commercial partnership that first began in 2009.

Pearson Expands Assessment Portfolio with ITS Acquisition

The acquisition allows Pearson to scale its offerings in high-stakes testing, including performance-based certification and secure remote monitoring. By folding the Maryland firm into its operations, Pearson aims to accelerate its long-term strategy of positioning itself as a primary provider of verified skills infrastructure. Art Valentine, president of Assessment & Qualifications at Pearson, noted that the company’s familiarity with ITS’s technology and team made the integration a logical progression for their assessment services.

For ITS, the transition marks the end of its tenure as an independent provider, moving instead into a global organization that serves customers in nearly 200 countries. ITS president Pat Ward emphasized that the two companies share a common vision for the application of artificial intelligence in testing and a unified commitment to maintaining the integrity of professional certifications. The existing ITS team will now operate under the Pearson banner, continuing to support the management and reporting of large-scale assessment programs globally.
