Staffing Industry Records First Year-Over-Year Growth Since 2022
The U.S. staffing sector has finally broken a multi-year stagnation, recording its first year-over-year revenue and employment gains since late 2022. According to the American Staffing Association, the industry added roughly 12,000 jobs during the second quarter of 2026, signaling a potential stabilization in the broader labor market.

Financial indicators mirrored this expansion, as total payroll for temporary and contract workers climbed 3.8% year-to-year and 6.3% quarter-to-quarter. Stephen Dweyer, chief executive officer of the association, attributes the trend to corporate caution. He noted that businesses are navigating economic uncertainty by leaning on external recruiting and workforce solutions to maintain operational flexibility. While the ASA’s weekly index and quarterly survey utilize different metrics, both tools now point toward a consistent recovery trend across the sector.
