Tokenized Equities Drive RWA Perpetual DEX Volume to $365 Billion
Trading activity for real-world asset perpetuals on decentralized exchanges surged to $365 billion in the third quarter of 2026, marking a 32% increase over the previous period. Public equities dominated the landscape, accounting for nearly half of all volume as traders shifted toward derivative exposure for stocks and commodities.

While the quarterly figures demonstrate robust expansion, the growth trajectory faced headwinds late in the period. After hitting a record $141 billion in July, monthly volume experienced its first contraction since January, dipping 13.5% to $122 billion in August. Analysts attribute this shift to a resurgence in demand for traditional crypto assets, as Bitcoin and other major tokens captured investor attention. Despite the subsequent decline in September, the strength of the early-quarter surge secured a total volume increase that comfortably outpaced the second quarter.
Public equities have emerged as the primary engine for this activity, capturing $175 billion of the total quarterly volume. This concentration is mirrored in the growth of available markets, which now exceed 1,000 listings across various venues. Decentralized perpetual platforms have aggressively expanded their offerings, with stocks currently representing roughly 75% of these listings. Notably, platforms like Hyperliquid have become central to this shift, leveraging infrastructure that allows independent teams to deploy diverse asset-linked contracts.
Alongside rising volume, total open interest on perpetual DEXs hit a record $19 billion. RWA-linked contracts now constitute approximately 24% of this total, a significant jump from the 6% share held at the start of the year. While these instruments provide efficient derivative exposure to assets like Nvidia or Tesla, they function as price-tracking vehicles rather than direct equity ownership, excluding holders from dividends or voting rights. As the ecosystem matures, tokenized stock market capitalization has climbed to $3.5 billion, with BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Solana hosting the majority of the underlying liquidity.
