Payward Integrates xStocks Into Ledger Hardware Wallets

Payward is bringing its xStocks tokenized equity platform to Ledger hardware wallets, enabling users to manage tokenized shares alongside traditional crypto assets. The partnership aims to merge self-custody security with exchange-grade trading, though the service remains strictly off-limits to investors in the United States.

The integration allows eligible users to buy, sell, and transfer hundreds of tokens linked to international and U.S. equities directly from their hardware devices. By utilizing Ledger’s Device Management Kit and Clear Signing feature, customers can verify transaction details on their physical hardware before authorization. Payward co-CEO David Ripley emphasized that the move seeks to bridge the gap between self-custody and market infrastructure, ensuring investors retain control over their keys without sacrificing trading functionality.

Beyond equity tokens, Payward Services will act as a provider for crypto purchases, sales, and swaps within the Ledger ecosystem. Initial payment options, including debit cards and bank transfers, are limited to users in Europe and the U.K. The firm also plans to extend these infrastructure capabilities to institutional clients through Ledger Enterprise. Despite the expansion, xStocks tokens do not grant holders standard shareholder privileges, such as voting rights or dividends. Furthermore, the tokens remain unregistered under the U.S. Securities Act, meaning the hardware support does not bypass existing geographic restrictions. While Payward continues to pursue other projects, including a separate tokenization venture with Nasdaq scheduled for 2027, the current Ledger rollout focuses on providing secure, non-custodial exposure to global stock prices.
