Patients can now receive cancer treatment in an upright position following the first clinical use of Leo Cancer Care’s Marie system. By rotating the patient around a fixed radiation beam rather than moving heavy machinery, the platform offers a departure from traditional radiotherapy, aiming to increase comfort and accessibility.
Beyond technical integration, the system is designed to improve the patient experience. Many individuals struggle to lie flat due to pain, anxiety, or respiratory issues; the upright orientation provides a more natural posture and allows for direct eye contact with the clinical team. CEO Stephen Towe stated that this milestone proves the technology is no longer a concept but a functional tool. Research suggests this method may also improve anatomical consistency and reduce organ motion.
