The service targets tourists from over 100 countries, enabling them to scan PayPay QR codes at restaurants, retail stores, and hotels. Because the infrastructure relies on HIVEX, local businesses do not need to manage digital assets or install specialized hardware. Instead, the system converts crypto balances into yen at the point of sale, maintaining the existing payment workflows familiar to Japanese shop owners.

Binance Pay Integrates With Japan’s PayPay Network
Over 48 million overseas Binance Pay users can now spend cryptocurrency at millions of merchant locations across Japan. The integration, launched September 30 via the HIVEX payment network, allows international travelers to pay via QR codes while merchants continue to receive settlements exclusively in Japanese yen.
This rollout excludes Japanese residents, who remain limited to the services provided by Binance Japan. The collaboration strengthens the existing alliance between Binance and the SoftBank-backed PayPay, which previously focused on domestic account transfers and yen-to-crypto liquidity. Thomas Gregory, Binance’s vice president of payments and fiat, noted that the move is designed to make digital assets more accessible for global travelers by piggybacking on Japan’s robust cashless ecosystem. The integration follows broader industry experiments in Japan, including stablecoin trials at convenience store chains like Lawson.
